History

Jomo Cosmos, along with clubs such as Orlando Pyrets , Kaiser Chiefs and Mamelody Sandowns , is one of the most popular clubs in South Africa, although the Leaders have achieved much less success. The club arose on the “ruins” of the “white” club, the Highlands Park , which was popular in the country in the early 1960s and late 1970s , which was purchased by Jomo Sono who returned from the USA in 1982 and was first renamed to “Dion Cosmos” ( 1983 ), and then in "Jomo Cosmos" ( 1984 ). Over its nearly 30-year history, Jomo Cosmos once won the championship of South Africa, having won the National Football League (NSL Castle League) in 1987 . Once the club from Johannesburg became the vice champion of South Africa in 1988, once - the owner of the South African Cup in 1990 and the Eight Cup in 2003 , twice - the South African League Cup in 2002 and 2005 . After the formation of the Premier League of South Africa in 1996 , the best achievement of the "Leaders" are two fourth places in the seasons 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 . In the 2007/2008 season, Jomo Cosmos left the Premier League for the first time in South Africa, and returned the following season.
