Biography

Born on September 24, 1956 in the village of Voronovo, Grodno region . Parents graduated from the Belarusian Agricultural Academy in Gorki and worked all their lives in the Voronovsky district : father as an engineer-land surveyor , mother as an agronomist [1] .

In 1973 he entered the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of BSU . He completed his undergraduate studies at the Institute of Technical Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR (ITC Academy of Sciences of the BSSR; since August 2002, the Joint Institute for Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus ).

In 1978, he graduated from the university with a degree in mathematics, his thesis was published in the scientific and technical collection of the Technical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR “Theory and Methods of Design Automation” and was awarded the Institute's prize for the first scientific publication among young scientists [1] . After graduation, everything was distributed to the same institute, where for almost a quarter of a century he went from a trainee-researcher to a general director ( 2003 ) [3] .

In 1980 he entered graduate school . At the suggestion of the supervisor, director of the ITC, O. I. Semenkov took up the development of a system for the automatic processing of cartographic images. In 1984, at the Institute of Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, he defended a Ph.D. thesis based on research results [1] .

After the defense, he continued research in the chosen direction. He developed the basics of the theory of processing and recognition of various classes of objects on graphic documents, the construction of mathematical models of graphic documents. The result was the monograph “Information Processing in Raster Graphic Systems” published in 1989 (co-authors: O. I. Semenkov, V. I. Bereishik, V. V. Starovoitov ) [1] .

In 1990 he defended his doctoral dissertation. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the actual cessation of funding, the institute expands the field of research to the processing of medical and drawing-graphic images, images of integrated circuits and other objects [1] .

From 1978 to 2008, he worked at the Institute of Technical Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR (since 2002, the Joint Institute for Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus): intern researcher, graduate student, junior researcher, senior researcher, since 1986 - head of the laboratory, 1998 - Deputy Director, in 2002-2008. - CEO. In 1998 - 2003 he worked as a professor at the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radio Electronics , from 1989 to 1998 and since 2003 he has been teaching at BSU. Since 1996, scientific secretary, since 2002, deputy chairman of the National Space Council of Belarus. From 2005 to 2012, the academician-secretary of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science of the NAS of Belarus [3] .

On October 31, 2008, he was appointed Rector of the Belarusian State University by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 593. On June 5, 2009 he was elected an academician at the general meeting of the NAS of Belarus [3] .

By decision of the Council of the European Union , from February 2011, Sergei Ablameyko was included in the list of persons who are prohibited from entering the EU [4] . In 2015, the ban was lifted [5] .

On September 28, 2017, Andrei Korol became the new rector of BSU [2] .

Scientific activity

He has published over 650 scientific papers, of which more than 300 are published in English in leading international journals and proceedings of international conferences abroad [1] . 26 books (3 of them published in the USA , England , Poland ), 34 collections of works published under his editorship and 5 brochures . Under his guidance and counseling, 10 candidate and 3 doctoral dissertations were defended [6] .

He was chairman and co-chair of more than 50 international conferences held in Germany , Italy , Poland, Belarus and a member of program committees of more than 150 international conferences on pattern recognition and image processing [6] . He was a member of the editorial board of international magazines “ Pattern Recognition ”, “ Pattern Recognition Letters ”, “ Machine Graphics and Vision ”, “ Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis ”, Belarusian magazines “Reports of the NAS of Belarus” and “Science and Innovations”, editor-in-chief of the magazines “Vestsі NAS of Belarus. Gray physics-mathematical sciences ”,“ Bulletin of BSU ”and“ Informatics ” [1] , deputy. ch. editor of the journal "Higher School".
