Bodrov, Sergey Vladimirovich

Sergei Vladimir Bodrov (born June 28, 1948, Khabarovsk ) is a Soviet and Russian film director, screenwriter, producer, father of actor and film director Sergei Bodrov Jr. Nominee for the Golden Globe Award and two-time nominee for the Oscar , for the films " Prisoner of the Caucasus " and " Mongol ." He is also a screenwriter of the film " East-West ", which is also nominated for an Oscar .

Biography

Born on June 28, 1948 in Khabarovsk . It has Russian, Tatar and Buryat roots. He began his career as a journalist. In 1970, Sergey Bodrov took third place in the competition of the magazine " Crocodile " for the best satirical and humorous story [3] . In 1974 he graduated from the VGIK scenario faculty (workshop of K.K. Paramonova and N. Fokina). In the same year he became a member of the CPSU [4] .

According to his scripts, more than twenty films were shot. Among his directorial works are “Non-Professionals” (1985), a special jury prize at the festival in Turin), “ Katala ” (1989), “ SIR ” (1989), “ I Wanted to See Angels ”. Then Sergey Bodrov moved to the United States , where he began working with his wife Caroline Cavalero.

The picture of the Chechen war “ Prisoner of the Caucasus ” received the 1997 Nika Prize as the best film of the year and the Felix European Film Academy Prize for the script.

Sergey Bodrov - author of several collections of short stories and feuilleton; his book Freedom = Paradise was published in France. As a screenwriter, he participated in the creation of Regis Varnier 's East-West painting.
