History
The stadium was inaugurated on October 28, 1944 with a match between Deportivo and Valencia , which ended with a score of 2: 3 in favor of the guests. The stadium was the official venue for the 1982 Mundial . Group stage matches were held here. This was the first time that it was completely remodeled. The next reconstruction took place from 1995 to 1998 , during which track and field athletics were removed from the stadium, as a result of which the capacity of the stadium increased to 36,000 seats.
New Stadium Design
In 2003, the President of Deportivo presented to the public a project for the new Riasor Stadium, designed by renowned American architect Peter Eisenman . He also said that it will be one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world, will have a classification of 5 UEFA stars and its capacity will be 36,000 seats. The project is currently stopped.
