The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic movement of the Roman Catholic Church , a Christian fraternity uniting practicing Catholic men and founded for charitable, social activities. The goal of the Knights of Columbus Catholic movement is to continue the work of Christopher Columbus , who brought Christianity to the New World. It was founded on March 29, 1882 by the Catholic priest Michael J. McGivney, whose life today is being considered by the Catholic Church for its further beatification . The Catholic Knights of Columbus movement is ruled by the Great Knight; from 1.10.2000, he is Carl A. Anderson, who became the thirteenth Great Knight since the inception of the organization.

History
On March 29, 1882, Priest Michael McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus organization, whose goal was to unite men who could contribute financially to help immigrants , guardianship of orphans and widows. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Catholic movement “Knights of Columbus” has been rapidly developing and today has embraced many states of the USA , Canada , Mexico , and the Philippines . Today, the Catholic movement “Knights of Columbus” is one of the largest Catholic organizations of the Roman Catholic Church. To the “Knights of Columbus” belonged canonized by Pope John Paul II, Saint Raphael Gisar Valencia .
Modern activities
Based on the social and dogmatic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Catholic movement, having a significant material base and widespread structure in church and state structures, actively influences political and social activities in the USA, supporting certain candidates in the US presidential election speaking on an election platform that does not contradict the Catholic teaching in the field of morality. In particular, members of the Knights of Columbus organization during the presidential campaign in the United States support a candidate who opposes legalizing same-sex marriage, experimenting with human embryos , and restricting or prohibiting abortion [1] .
