The qualifying tournament of the World Cup 2010 in the Oceania zone included three stages: the first was held in the framework of the Pacific Games of 2007 , the second was also the final tournament of the OFC Cup of Nations in 2008 . As part of the third round of the qualifying tournament, the best team in the zone was to play butt games with the team, which finished fifth in the Asian Football Confederation zone . According to the results of the qualifying tournament, the New Zealand team qualified for the second time in its history in the final part of the World Cup.

Qualifier Scheme
The qualifying tournament consisted of three stages [1] :
- The first round of the qualifying tournament was held as part of the 2007 Pacific Games in Samoa . At the same time, the tournament was qualifying for the UFC Cup of Nations . The three best teams according to the results of the competition qualified in the next stage;
- At the second stage, the three winners of the first round and the New Zealand national team played round-robin , the winner of the tournament became the owner of the OFK Nations Cup and received an invitation to the Confederations Cup , and also qualified for the next stage of the World Cup qualifying tournament;
- In the third round of the qualifying tournament, the best team of the OFK zone in butt matches held butt matches with the team that finished fifth in the Asian Football Confederation zone . The winner of the butt matches qualified for the finals of the 2010 World Cup.
