O rappa

In 1993, the popular Jamaican reggae singer Papa Winnie came to Brazil with the aim of giving several concerts . The singer was not accompanied by instrumental musicians, and for the accompaniment he needed a local band. Such a group was urgently assembled by the then producer of the Brazilian reggae group Ciadade Negra Nelson Meirelesh .

In addition to Nelson himself, who played the bass guitar, it included keyboardist Marcel Lobato from África Gumbe , guitarist Alexandre Menezis nicknamed Xandão (from port. - Shandan), who previously performed in various African bands in Paris and drummer Marcelou Yucca from KMD-5 groups.

After the end of the tour of the Jamaican singer, four musicians decided to stay together and organize a group in which they could continue to collaborate. The new team lacked vocalist. The musicians published an advertisement in the O Globo newspaper about the search for a singer for the group being created and, after listening to many candidates, chose Marcel Falcon , who became the permanent vocalist of O Rappa.

The following 1994, the group released their debut album, called O Rappa. Not received a well-known album ^[1] was the only recording producer and bass guitarist Meirelis in the group. Shortly after his recording, Nelson left the band, and bassist took the place of Laura Faryas , colleague Marcelu Yuki of the KMD-5 group.
