About the album
Thriller 25 was released by Sony's BMG record company, Legacy Recordings , which specializes in reissuing albums. In the UK , the British Board of Film Classification has assigned this edition at least 15 years of age, as it includes the Thriller video clip. This is Jackson's first album to receive a "age limit" certificate. Along with the original material, this reissue contains remixes, new songs, DVDs and songs recorded in collaboration with other artists.
Two singles were released from this album: “The Girl Is Mine 2008” and “Wanna Be Startin 'Somethin' 2008” - with moderate success, and also several remixes hit the charts, despite the fact that they were not released as singles. In general, the reissue was commercially successful: 3 million copies were sold worldwide in 12 weeks. The album also received good reviews from critics, although their opinion was that the new songs are not as inspiring as the original material.
Michael Jackson's sixth album, Thriller , was released on November 30, 1982. According to various estimates, sales of this album ranged from 47 to 100 million copies. Thriller was the best-selling album of all time, the first album ever to bring seven singles to the top of the charts. The success of the album ensured Michael Jackson the highest place in the hierarchy of pop musicians, made him an international pop idol.
In an Access Hollywood television show in late 2006, Jackson was asked about the "second chapter" of the album. He replied that he was going to discuss cooperation with will.i.am , but had not decided anything yet.
The singer acted as executive producer of the reissue; The album was announced at a press conference at Epic Records on November 30, 2007.
