Biography
He became famous for playing for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks , of which he was a captain. Their connection with the Finnish Teemu Selyanne scored more than 200 points per season, and the link Kariya - Ruchchin - Selyanne was one of the strongest in the NHL in the 1990s. After the exchange of Selanne in the “ San Jose Sharks ”, Caria’s performance dropped, and the hockey player’s further game was affected by numerous injuries, in particular, concussions. Wanting to win the Stanley Cup and play again in the same team with Selanne, in 2003 Paul signed a one-year contract with Colorado Avalanche . But in Colorado, Caria continued to pursue injuries, and their connection with Selanne did not show previous results. After the lockout, Paul signed a 2-year contract with the Nashville Predators , where he set several team records. In 2008, Caria signed a $ 18 million 3-year contract with the St. Louis Blues Club, where he ended his career.
His younger brother, Martin Kariya , played for Swedish, Japanese, Swiss clubs, and in the 2009/10 season he played in the KHL for the Dynamo club (Riga) . His other brother, Steve Kariya , played for the Finnish COD club. The sister, Noriko Kariya , became a professional boxer.
Paul has repeatedly participated in matches of all NHL stars , twice was a laureate of “ Lady Bing Trophy ”. March 20, 2010 reached the mark of 400 goals in the NHL. He completed his career in the NHL with a score of 989 points in 989 matches.
On October 21, 2018, Anaheim retired the 9th issue, under which Paul Kariya played for the team [2] .
