Brazil has a great political and economic influence in Latin America , and is also an important player on the world stage [1] . The Ministry of External Relations is responsible for its foreign policy.
Brazil’s policy is strong competition for US relations with other Latin American countries.
Brazil participates in multilateral diplomacy within the Organization of American States and the United Nations , and also improves ties with developing countries in Africa and Asia .

Diplomatic Relations
Brazil maintains diplomatic relations with all UN member states , with the exception of:
- Butane
- Honduras - diplomatic relations were suspended on June 29, 2009 due to the coup d'état [2] .
- Marshall Islands
- Federated States of Micronesia
- Tonga
- Tuvalu
Brazil also does not recognize the independence of Kosovo [3] and the Republic of China .
EU
Russia
On January 28, 2006, Russia and Brazil concluded bilateral negotiations on Russia's accession to the WTO and signed the corresponding agreement. In November 2008, an intergovernmental agreement was signed, establishing a visa-free regime for traveling between Russia and Brazil to each other for up to 90 days. Since June 7, 2010, a visa-free regime has been introduced for short-term trips.
At a meeting with the Vice President of Brazil, Vladimir Putin said that Russian-Brazilian relations have great potential, and this is evidenced by an increase in trade turnover by 28% in 2010. He also attributed Brazil "to the number of our strategic partners not only in Latin America, but also in the world" [4] .
Brazil and Russia also collaborate in international organizations such as the UN and BRICS .
International issues
- Brazil has a disputed territory with Uruguay [5] .
- In 1986, Brazil declared the sector between 28 ° W to 53 ° W "Brazilian Antarctica" ( port. Antártica Brasileira ) [6] .
- In 2004, Brazil submitted its requirements to the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) in order to expand its maritime boundary [7] .

Brazil participates in 73 international organizations.
Brazil abandoned nuclear weapons by signing the Tlatelolco Treaty on the creation of a nuclear-free zone in Latin America (1967) and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (1997) [8] .
