Hook (climbing)

Climbing bouldering climbing wall made with artificial hooks

A hook is a sports climbing equipment in the form of an artificially created stone of various sizes and shapes, which in the aggregate is an imitation of a natural relief.

The surface of the hook usually has a microrelief, which increases the friction force between the fingers of the climber and the hook and, thus, provides good adhesion of the hand to the hook and comfortable climbing.

Using hooks of various shapes with their fastening at different distances from each other, they form a climbing path on an artificial terrain. Hooks are used to create climbing walls . Hooks are attached to the shields from which the climbing wall is built, with bolts .

Using hooks, i.e. clinging to them with parts of the body (as a rule, grasping them with hands and / or stepping feet), the climber rises (moves) along an artificial wall.

Today, there are a huge number of types of hooks, which allows you to diversify climbing routes on an artificial terrain indoors or outdoors.

To cleanse of magnesia and improve friction, the hooks are periodically brushed or washed with water (after removing them).
