Biography
Ivan Sturua was born in 1870 in a peasant family. In 1889, he began working in the Tiflis railway workshops, where in 1896 he joined the RSDLP . He organized strikes , collaborated in clandestine printing houses in Baku , St. Petersburg and Vyborg , for which he was subjected to reprisals . In 1917 he became the head of the Bolshevik organization in Samtredia . In 1920, he was elected a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (b) of Georgia . From 1922 to 1924 - Commissar of Agriculture. From 10.1922 - 01.1923 Chairman of the All-Georgian Central Executive Committee. Since 1924 - member of the Central Control Commission .
Memory
Baku Shipyard was named after Vano Sturua.
