The sisters Alice, Georgiana, Agnes, and Louise MacDonald are the daughters of the English Methodist priest George Brown MacDonald (1805–1868) and Hannah Jones (1809–1875), who became famous for their marriages with prominent figures of the Victorian era [1] .
The MacDonald family had 7 daughters and 4 sons:
- Mary (1834-1836), died in early childhood.
- Henry (1836-1891), it was he who introduced the younger sisters (Georgiana and Agnes) to the bohemian environment.
- Alice (1837-1910) married the book illustrator John Lockwood Kipling and was the mother of the writer Rudyard Kipling .
- Caroline (1838-1854).
- Georgiana (1840-1920) married pre-Raphaelite artist Edward Burne-Jones .
- Frederick William (1842-1928).
- Agnes (1843-1906) married Edward Poynter, President of the Royal Academy of Arts .
- Louise (1845–1925) married the owner of metallurgical enterprises Alfred Baldwin . She wrote novels, short stories and poems, which she published under the name "Mrs. Alfred Baldwin" [2] [3] [4] . She was the mother of Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin and the grandmother of Oliver Baldwin .
