History

The Entomological Society of America was created in the USA in 1889 as a non-governmental public association and is currently the world's largest entomological society. In its modern form since 1953 , includes offices in the USA, Canada and Mexico .

It unites about 6,000 members, among which entomologists predominate, but traditionally there are also acarologists , arachnologists and specialists in other arthropod groups. Annual Meetings bring together up to 2,000 active members who elect their president and award public awards.

The national office is located in Lanham, Maryland (near the US capital, Washington ). The society has 4 Professional Interest Sections and 5 Geographic Departments.
