Appearance
A small animal with a body length of 5.7 cm, a tail of 4.8 cm, weighing 8-10 g. On the bases of the thumbs of the wings and on the soles of the hind limbs at the suction foot there are complex rosette suckers, which are located directly on the integument wading bats). Muzzle shortened. Nasal leaf no. The ears are large, longer than the head; have a small but developed trestle and an additional mushroom growth partially covering the auditory canal. The lips are wide, the upper one hangs over the lower lip. The tail of approximately 1/3 of the length protrudes from the inter femoral membrane. I forelimb finger has a rudimentary claw. The fingers on the hind limbs have two phalanxes and are partially fused with each other. The coat is rather rare; color from light brown to golden brown. Skull with a rounded brain capsule and massive zygomatic arches. Teeth 38.
Lifestyle
Madagascar sunsoconog is found only in rain and secondary palm forests on the east coast of Madagascar , including the forests of the Masoala peninsula. Its biology and ecology is practically not studied. Probably, he uses folded leathery leaves of palm trees and Madagascar radaals (family Banana ) as shelters, to which they stick with their suckers. All samples were caught near the water. There are over fields, vanilla plantations, rice checks. Echolocation signals are long, up to 23 msec. They feed on small insects, which, apparently, are caught on the fly.
In the list of the International Red Book, the Madagascar jungle was introduced in 1988 with an “ Insufficiently Known ” status. From 1990 to 1996, his status was assessed as vulnerable ( Vulnerable ), and now - as causing the least concern ( Least Concern ) [2] .
