The Markov Monastery in the name of St. Demetrius is an Orthodox convent in northern Macedonia , now the monastery is run by the non - canonical Macedonian Orthodox Church . Bulgarians consider the Markov Monastery a part of the national historical heritage [1] [2] . Named after the national hero Kralevich Marco .

Location
It is located near the village of Markov-Sushitsa , through which the Markov River flows, about 20 km from the capital Skopje .
History
The monastery church of St. Demetrius was erected in 1345 . The temple was updated by King Vukashin , the murals were completed under his son Marco between 1366 and 1371 .
