Subepithelial mucinous corneal dystrophy

Subepithelial mucinous corneal dystrophy ( English Subepithelial mucinous corneal dystrophy; SMCD ) is a rare form of human corneal dystrophy , first described in 1993 by Feder et al. [1] Subepithelial opacities are noted. Electron microscopy shows the deposition of glycosaminoglycans on top of the Bowman layer , their analysis reveals chondroitin sulfate and dermatan sulfate .
