Early life and education
Jonathan Southworth Ritter was born September 17, 1948 in Burbank , California , in the family of country music singer and actor Tex Ritter , known under the nickname “singing cowboy”, and his wife actress [2] [3] . In addition to John, the family had another child - the son of Thomas Matthew (b. January 8, 1947), who suffered from cerebral palsy. As a child, John occasionally appeared on stage with his father [1] .
John studied at , where he was simultaneously the and the "smart guy" ( eng. Class clown ) [k 1] . Soon after he graduated from school in the spring of 1965, his television debut took place: in 1966, he participated in the show The Dating Game, where he won a vacation trip to Lake Havasu City in Arizona . Then John entered the University of Southern California , where he specialized in psychology and received a degree in architecture. Shortly after the start of training, Ritter began to attend classes in acting, which were taught by Nina Foch , and changed the course of study from psychology to theatrical art. He also learned the craft from Stella Adler in the comedy workshop of Harvey Lembek [2] . Even before obtaining a bachelor of arts degree in 1971, Ritter spent several months in 1968-1969 in England, Scotland, Holland and Germany, where he performed in various theatrical productions [5] . John's comedic talent later allowed him to regularly receive relevant roles in the theater, although he himself dreamed of playing a dramatic character [1] .
Career
Before getting on television, Ritter played several roles in the theater. Since 1968, he began acting in various TV shows, then made his film debut as Roger in the film The Barefoot Executive. From the first works in film and on television, he proved himself to be a bright comedian.
Sign for John was the role of Jack Tripper in the TV series " Three - is a company ." For her, Ritter received two awards: Golden Globe (1983) and Emmy (1984). Also successful was the role of Detective Hooperman in the same series. John also produced several films. He was a guest star in such projects as Clinic , Law and Order: Special Corps , Buffy the Vampire Slayer , and others. John also voiced cartoons and cartoons. On September 18, 1999, Ritter married actress Amy Yasbek [10] , whom he met while filming The Difficult Child . A year before the wedding, their daughter Stella was born.
Death
September 11, 2003, John felt bad. On the set of the series “ 8 simple rules for a friend of my teenage daughter, ” Ritter complained of heartache, he later fainted and fell into a coma . Ritter was taken to , where he died the same evening at the 55th year of life from aortic dissection caused by congenital heart disease .
John Ritter is buried in the Hollywood Hills cemetery in Los Angeles .
Lawsuit
In 2008, Amy Yasbek filed a $ 67 million lawsuit against radiologist Matthew Lotish and cardiologist Joseph Lee. Yasbek blamed Lee, who treated John on the day of his death, for making a wrong diagnosis - a heart attack [11] . Lotish was accused of not finding an expansion of the aorta on a scan made by John two years before his death. Both sides agreed that the true state of Ritter was discovered only before his death [11] . found the doctors who treated Ritter on the day of death to be innocent [12] [13] .
