Ostkreuz is a well-known Berlin photo agency , which owns one of the recognized, non-state photo schools in Berlin . The name of the photo agency comes from the name of the railway hub and metro station in the center of the German capital. On the other hand, the name Ostkreuz (translated as “Eastern Cross”) symbolically reveals the interest of its authors in Eastern Europe.

Foundation History
Ostkreuz was founded in 1990 by seven renowned German photographers Sibille Bergeman , Uta Mahler , Werner Mahler , Jönz Rötsch , Harald Hauswald , Thomas Zendberg and Half Zimmermann . Already in the days of the GDR , some of them were recognized as leading masters of photography. Publications in major world publications, the exhibition and teaching activities of Ostkreuz photographers, as well as the monographs of its participants have made him one of the most respected photo agencies in the world. An example of the photographic language and organization of Ostkreuz during its foundation was the Paris agency Magnum .
Ostkreuz today
At the moment, the photo agency has 19 photographers, from beginners to the world-renowned masters of photography, 6 staff members. The photo agency owns a school of the same name in Berlin, where some of the agency's photographers are involved in teaching. The main direction of the photo agency is authorial documentary photography and photojournalism . Along with daily editorial activities, Ostkreuz is actively working on large documentary and exhibition projects. In 2009, he published 3 books.
