Geography

The village is located between the rivers Shalazha and Nethoy , 3 km south-east of the district center Achkhoi-Martan and 30 km south-west of the city of Grozny .

The nearest settlements: in the north-east - the villages of Shaami-Yurt and Valerik , in the north-west - the district center of Achkhoi-Martan , in the south - the village of Shalazhi , in the south-east - the village of Gekhi-Chu , in the south-west - the village of Jandi , in the west - the village of Bamut , in the east - the village of Gekhi [5] .

History

In 1944, after the deportation of Chechens and Ingushs and the liquidation of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, the village of Katyr-Yurt was renamed Tutovo [6] .

In 1958, by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, the village of Tutovo was renamed Katyr-Yurt [7] .

During the second Chechen war , from 4 to 7 February 2000, Russian aircraft bombed the village. As a result, according to various sources, from 46 to 167 people were killed. In a decision of December 2, 2010, the European Court of Human Rights ordered Russia to pay € 1.720.000 to the victims of the Katyr-Yurt bombing - 29 applicants in compensation for their wounds or the death of their loved ones [8] .
