Samsø ( Dat. Samsø ) is an island in the southern part of the Kattegat Strait. It is located between the Jutland peninsula (15 km to the coast) and the island of Zealand (separated by the Samsø Belt Strait , date. Samsø Bælt ).

The island is a separate municipality of Samsø with a center in the town of Tranebjörg . Area 112.06 km² (with coastal islets). The population is 4,003 people (2009).
A ferry service connects Samsø with Jutland (town of Hov ) and Zealand (city of Kalundborg ).
The island is notable for the maximum use of alternative energy sources - wind (Bonus A / S wind power plants, now part of the Siemens AG concern), solar panels and solar collectors , biofuels , biological waste , etc. [1]
The island is popular for picking strawberries , which attracts tourists from such remote parts of Europe as Ireland and French Brittany . Samsø is also known in Denmark for the country's earliest potato and semi-hard cheese of the same name.
