Ideal (philosophy)

The ideal is a philosophical category , the opposite of the material . The ideal in the idealist tradition is understood as an independent intangible principle that exists outside of space and time ( spirit , ideas ). The ideal in the materialist tradition is understood as a reflection in the consciousness of the external world, a subjective image of objective reality . In Marxism is interpreted as a reflection of the external world in the forms of consciousness and human activity as a social being, the product and form of social practice (as opposed to the simple product of passive individual contemplation).

Synthetic theory of the ideal D. V. Pivovarova

Ideal is a philosophical category denoting the characteristic properties of eidos, ideas, ideals and idols [1] [2] .

The most important of these properties [2] [3] :

  1. simplicity and immateriality
  2. substantial similarity of the image and the subject associated with it
  3. the ability of an image to become a unit of the subjective world of a person and to inform him about objective entities and phenomena.
