Philippine Mountain Peoples - a group of peoples in the Philippines , united by a similar way of life, due to the fact that they all inhabit the mountainous regions of the country with similar natural conditions. They inhabit, however, various territories, settled, as a rule, on the largest islands of the archipelago .
- Mountain peoples of the island of Luzon : Ifugao , Bontok , Tingiana , Kalinga , Gaddana , Inibaloi , Kankanai , Apayo .
- The mountain peoples of the island of Mindanao : bukidnon , bilaan , subanon , manobo , bagobo , mandaya , tirurai , tagakaolo , manguan ghana .
- On the island of Mindoro , the peoples of the mangian group live.
- The islands of Batan and Babuyan are inhabited by the Ivatans .
- Tagbanwa live on Palawan Island.
Their total number is 2.1 million people.
Languages
All of the above peoples have their own national languages or dialects related to the Filipino languages of the Austronesian language family . In addition to national languages, they can use national languages: Tagalog and English .
Culture
All these peoples largely preserve the traditional way of life, in contrast to the coastal peoples, more assimilated by the Spaniards and Americans . To the influence of Christians and partially Muslim peoples Moro , they were less affected. Their main occupations are agriculture , cattle breeding , gardening , fishing , gathering and crafts . Currently, some of them are engaged in industry, most often in mining .
Politically, they are more inclined to uphold independence and a distinctive culture. The level of civilization of individual peoples of this group varies.
