Otto Hauser ( German Otto Hauser ; April 12, 1874 , - June 14, 1932 , Berlin ) is a Swiss antique dealer and self-taught archaeologist who explored monuments of prehistoric Europe, the discoverer of the famous Paleolithic monuments in Dordogne , where is it in 1906-1914 conducted large-scale archaeological excavations. After the outbreak of World War I, he was forced to immediately interrupt the excavation and on August 2, 1914, flee from France to Germany in connection with accusations of espionage in favor of Germany. In the same month, his collection, other property and letters located in France were confiscated, and after the end of the war, in 1921, this confiscation was officially confirmed. In 1916, Hauser defended his thesis at the University of Erlangen on the topic “A New Chronology of the Middle Paleolithic”. [3] Despite the ruin caused by the confiscation, Hauser soon managed to make a lot of money again due to the fact that his books on the prehistoric period became bestsellers in German-speaking countries.
