In 2013 , 6 village councils were abolished [6] . This decision abolished the Bogdanovsky , Zalessky , Pryalninsky , Sakovshchinsky , Uzbolotsky and Yarshevichsky village councils [6] .

Geography

Area 1916.78 km². In the north, east and south, the district borders on the Molodechno , Minsk , Dzerzhinsky , and Stolbtsovsky districts of the Minsk region, in the west and north-west - on the Ivyevsky , Oshmyany and Smorgon districts of the Grodno region .

The relief of the area is mostly hilly. In the east of the district there is a part of the Minsk Upland (the highest point is Mount Mayak , 335 m), in the north - a small part of the Oshmyany Upland , in the south-west - the marshy Nyoman lowland . There is a large Berezinsky deposit of sand and gravel material (14.3 million m³), ​​small deposits of peat and brick clay [7] .

The main rivers are the West Berezina, its tributaries Yulshanka and Isloch. 37.1% of the area is covered by forest [8] . About 2/3 of the forest area is occupied by conifers, birch, alder, aspen, and oak are widespread from deciduous species [7] .

History

In 1921-1939 - in the Volozhinsky district of the Novogrudok Voivodeship of Poland. The Volozhin district was formed on January 15, 1940 . In 1940-1944, the district was part of the Baranavichy region , in 1944-1960 - in the Molodechno region , since 1960 - in the Minsk region [9] .

Demographics

The population of the district is 33,179 people, including about 14,522 people living on urban conditions (as of January 1, 2018) [3] - 10,308 people in Volozhin and 4,214 people in Ivenets [10] .

In 2018, 17.1% of the population of the district were younger than able-bodied, 50.4% - able-bodied, 32.5% - older than able-bodied [11] . 360–460 children are born annually in the Volozhin district and 630–900 people die. The birth rate is 10.9 per 1000 people in 2017, the mortality rate is 19.1. A natural population decline is observed, and the population decreases annually by 200-500 people for natural reasons (in 2017 - 274 people, or -8.2 per 1000 people) [12] . In 2017, 197 marriages (5.9 per 1000 people) and 77 divorces (2.3) were concluded in the Volozhinsky district; the divorce rate is the lowest in the Minsk region [13] .

The average salary of workers in the Volozhin district amounted to 76% of the average level in the Minsk region [19] .

Revenue from sales of products, goods, works, services for 2017 amounted to 246 million rubles (about 123 million dollars), including 105 million rubles accounted for agriculture , forestry and fisheries, 63.6 million for industry , 16.7 million for construction, 42 million for trade and repair, 18.7 million for other types of economic activity [20] .

Industry

The largest industrial enterprises are the joint venture Ivkon OJSC (confectionery factory; Ivenets settlement), Volozhinsky flax mill OJSC (primary flax processing), Volozhinsky rayagropromtekhnika OJSC, and Ivenets Art Ceramics Plant OJSC [21] . There is also a Volozhin branch of OJSC Molodechno Dairy Plant, which produces several dozen items of dairy products [22] .

Agriculture

In 2017, the agricultural organizations of the district collected 64.6 thousand tons of grain and leguminous crops with a yield of 28 kg / ha (the average in the region - 35 kg / ha), 528 tons of flax fiber with a yield of 5.6 kg / ha (average in the region - 7.8 kg / ha), 83.6 thousand tons of sugar beets with a yield of 332 kg / ha (the average in the region - 522 kg / ha) [23] .

In 2017, the agricultural organizations of the region sold 15 thousand tons of cattle and poultry meat and produced 54.2 thousand tons of milk (average milk yield - 4437 kg) [24] . As of January 1, 2018, the agricultural organizations of the district contained 35.6 thousand heads of cattle, including 12.2 thousand cows [25] . In 2017, poultry farms of the Volozhinsky district produced 5 million eggs [26] .

In the Volozhinsky district, SPK Persai-2003 is located - one of four enterprises in the Republic of Belarus specializing in cattle breeding of meat breeds [27] .

Transport

The roads of republican significance Minsk - Grodno and Minsk- Lida pass through the district.

Education

In the school year 2017/2018, there were 18 pre-school education institutions in the district that served 1,137 children, and 17 general secondary education institutions, in which 3,429 children were enrolled. The educational process was provided by 568 teachers [28] .

In Volozhin there is an agricultural professional lyceum (former rural vocational school No. 208) [29] [30] .

Health

In 2016, 82 medical practitioners (24.6 per 10 thousand people) and 318 paramedical workers (95.4 per 10 thousand people) worked in organizations of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus located in the region. There were 281 beds in hospitals (84.3 per 10 thousand people) [31] .

The Volozhinsky central district hospital has 2 territorial departments - the Rakovsky district hospital and the Ivenets town-hospital [32] . There are also 13 feldsher-midwife centers and 5 medical outpatient clinics [33] .

Culture

In 2017, 13.7 thousand people visited the public libraries of the district, to whom 236.8 thousand copies of books and magazines were issued [34] . In 2017, there were 14 clubs operating in the district [35] .

There are two state museums in the district - the Volozhinsky Museum of Local Lore and the Ivenets Museum of Traditional Culture (founded in 1957 as the Felix Dzerzhinsky Memorial Museum [36] ). In 2016, they were visited by 10.2 and 20.6 thousand people, respectively [37] .

Religion

In the Volozhin district, 21 Orthodox communities, 9 Roman Catholic , 5 Christian communities of the Evangelical faith (Pentecostals), 2 communities of evangelical Christians-Baptists, 1 community of Old Believers are registered. Religious communities are served by 21 priests [38] .

    • The palace ensemble of Count I. Tyshkevich . Built by architect A. Kosakovsky in 1782-1806. Monument of classicism architecture.
    • Catholic church of St. Joseph, built in the style of classicism in 1816.
    • Church of Saints Helena and Constantine, built in the style of wooden architecture in 1866.
    • Volozhin Yeshiva . Built in 1866-1867 on the model of the burned down in 1865.

    • Catholic church of St. Michael (white) and the Franciscan monastery. It was built in 1702−1705 from brick under the guidance of the local master A. Chakhovich. Baroque architecture monument.
    • Catholic church of St. Alexis (red). Built in 1905-1907 in the Neo-Gothic style.
    • Since 1997, the Orthodox St. Euphrosynean Church has been built in the Neo-Byzantine style.

    • The grave of the artist, graphic artist, theater decorator and teacher Ferdinand Eduardovich Rushchits (1870-1936). Born in the estate of Bogdanovo. Student of the artists I. Shishkin and A. Kuindzhi.
  • v. Vishnevo.
    • The Catholic Church of the Most Holy Virgin Mary, built in 1637-1641 and completed with a two-spire main facade. The church is painted by Ferdinand Ruschits.
    • At the local cemetery, Constance Builo and Peter Bitel are buried .
  • v. Vygonichi.
    • In 1987, a memorial sign was erected to the left of the Rakov-Perezhera highway in honor of the Russian Decembrist Alexander Bestuzhev-Marlinsky, who spent the winter of 1823 at the local landowner Voidevich.
    • Vygonichi is the birthplace of the Belarusian-Polish composer Mikhail Grushvitsky .

    • The burial and memorial complex in memory of 257 civilians (including 146 old people, women and children) were burnt alive by Nazi occupiers in a local church on July 23, 1943. In 1961, a monument was erected, in 1991 - the memorial complex "The dead forever."
