Tank Leonardo da Vinci is one of the inventions of the great Italian inventor, artist and scientist Leonardo da Vinci .
Design
The Renaissance tank, considered the main prototype of modern tanks , was to be built from wooden and metal parts. The mechanism by which the movement was carried out consisted of wheels, gears and handles. The tank was supposed to move through the muscular strength of the crew, presumably among eight people [1] . Guns should be located around the perimeter of the structure. An observation tower was to be built upstairs. The tank was supposed to be so high that stairs had to be installed inside.
Application
Most likely, the tank was intended more to intimidate and demoralize the enemy, rather than as a serious weapon of defeat [1] . Due to the cumbersome design and low maneuverability, the tank could not be used on terrain with changing terrain. Also, given the weight of the entire machine, it could not even be budged through muscular traction. This project was clearly not feasible in the XV century , but set the direction of engineering in the direction of creating tanks. In 2003, in the BBC program “Leonardo: The Man Who Wanted to Know Everything”, an attempt was made to make a tank according to Leonardo’s drawings, but a mistake was made (probably specially) in them (drawings) - pairs of wheels spun in different directions, this error was fixed, and the tank was tested in action. In 2009, the Discovery Channel launched a series of popular science shows , Da Vinci Apparatus . In the first issue of this television show, a team of historians, mechanics, and engineers recreated the Da Vinci tank using materials that existed in his era.
