Eolith is an obsolete archaeological term proposed by the French archaeologist Gabriel de Mortilla ( 1821-19898 ). The term meant the chronological epoch immediately preceding the Paleolithic . At present, the term is not used, since the “flint tools” that Mortilley attributed to this epoch were found to have a natural origin.
In the book "History of Technology" (Zvorykin, AA and others, 1962) date back to 800-400 thousand years BC. and precede the Lower Paleolithic Shell industry [1] . The creators of the eoliths were considered Pithecanthropes [2]
