Geography

The village of Taiga is located in Western Siberia , in the western part of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Ugra, on the border with the Sverdlovsk Region .

From the west and south-west the village is surrounded by the Nerpiatalah-Yankalma swamp , on the other sides it is surrounded by taiga forests, as a result of which it got its name.

1.5 km north of the village lies the Ivdel - Sovetsky highway. The railway line Yekaterinburg - Ivdel I - Priobye runs through the village. There is a railway junction 135 km of the Sverdlovsk railway .

History

It was founded in 1961. Received the status of an urban-type settlement in 1976.

A native of p. Tayozhny is Evgeny Aleksandrovich Dementiev - a Russian skier, the 2006 Olympic champion in duathlon, the silver medalist of the world championship in Sapporo in 2007, the bronze medalist of the world championship in Oberstdorf in 2005.
