Etymology
Karyms were called baptized Buryats. The local historian Nikolai Tyazhelov wrote that the lands in the area of the village at one time belonged to the Cabinet , and only Orthodox were allowed to settle on such lands. Buryats who decided to settle here adopted Orthodoxy. The name "Karym" is also associated with the name of the village of Karymka in the Ulyotovsky district .
History

It was supposedly founded in 1761 by the baptized Tungus (" Karyms ") of the princes Gantimurovs of the Nerchinsk voivodship office. Since 1822, the settlement was subordinate to the Urulginsky foreign council. Initially, the village of Karymskaya was located on the left bank of the Ingoda River . After the flood of 1897, residents moved to the railway station, built in 1897 on a high place. The village consisted of 4 short streets with 92 different buildings, including an elementary school, a resettlement center, several shops and a bathhouse. The status of an urban-type settlement has been since 1935 .
