History

In 1965, a large gold deposit was discovered by the Polyarninsky Exploration Party of the Chaunsky RaiGRU in the Ryveyem river valley. The following year, the construction of the mine and the mining village began.

The town-forming enterprise of the village was the mine of the Leningrad Polyarninsky mining and processing plant .

The village was built up with comfortable 2-storey wooden houses. On the eastern outskirts of the area was a private residential area. There was also the tallest structure of the village - the building of the factory for the extraction of ore gold. The street where the last residential quarter was built in the 1980s was named in honor of the director of Polyarninsky GOK S. Ladny.

There was a secondary school, two kindergartens, a medical dispensary, a communications center, a library, a club, a gym, a ski lift.

Streets: Youth, October, Discoverers, Coastal, Transport, Mining, Okay [5] .

In 1998, the village was officially liquidated [6] , part of the population moved to other regions. However, another part of it, due to the lack of housing in the central regions of the country from 1998, at least until 2000, continued to live in the village in the hope of using the right to receive a housing subsidy.

Transport

A year-round road was built to the neighboring village of Polyarny with further access to the Shmidtovsky winter road.

10 km north of the village on the shores of the Chukchi Sea was a sea pier.

There was an airport located on the spit of the Ryveyem river, air communication was carried out with the district center ( An-2 , Mi-4, Mi-8) and the city of Pevek ( An-28 ).

Current status

Currently, there is no permanent population in the village. On the outskirts of the village on a rotational basis, small gold mining artels of the miners Shakhtar and the Arctic are working.
