The Kathleen Ferrier Award is a contest of young opera singers held in London in April every year since 1956 in memory of singer Kathleen Ferrier .
Performers not older than 29 years of age who have studied vocal skills at higher educational institutions of Great Britain or with renowned British vocal teachers for at least a year are allowed to participate in the competition. Initially, the amount of the award in the competition was the approximate annual cost of teaching vocal in the UK; currently the first prize is £ 10,000. The costs of the contest are borne by a special memorial fund, the origins of which were outstanding musicians who collaborated with Ferrier - John Barbirolli , Malcolm Sargent , Gerald Moore , Roy Henderson and others.
Since 2001 , an award has also been awarded to the best pianist-accompanist, who also has not reached the age of 30.
