Some Kdenlive Features

Kdenlive uses MLT effects, frei0r and SOX libraries, and LADSPA . It supports all formats supported by FFmpeg or libav (for example, QuickTime , AVI , WMV , MPEG , etc.), and also supports 4: 3 and 16: 9 resolutions for PAL, NTSC and various HD standards, including HDV and AVCHD . Videos can be exported to DV devices or burned to DVDs with chapters and a simple menu. In Kdenlive it is possible:

  • Creating multi-track projects.
  • Cut clips, insert and remove spaces between them.
  • Using two software monitors to view the selected project clip and to view the resulting project video (with all effects, titles, transitions, etc.).
  • Creating a hierarchical structure for the source (prepared for use in the project) materials (video clips, audio files, photos, and so on).
  • Kdenlive understands text files (with the extension .txt ), which in some cases can be inserted into the project as captions.
  • Flexible configuration of the interface over a wide range, including saving the selected window configuration.
  • Creation of titles, and their settings based on a large number of parameters. The caption editor is also able to insert third-party images, make various frames, and more.
  • In Kdenlive there is the possibility of adding static guides in any part of the project, as well as markers that are individual for each clip located on the time track.
  • A task for numerous teams of their own hotkey combinations.
  • Non-destructive installation. Editing a video (before its final rendering into a separate file) takes place without destroying the source files, since this editing is simply making changes to a text file in which the necessary actions that the program must perform to create the resulting video are described in XML.
  • Non-blocking miscalculation (aka rendering, coding, export). This means that while there is a miscalculation, you can continue to work on the same project.
  • Create slide shows in automatic mode. To do this, just specify the catalog with the images on the basis of which the slide show will be created. [five]

History

The project was started by Jason Wood in 2002 for KDesktop Environment 3, the MLT framework was not used. The program was later ported to KDE 4 and MLT, for which the code was almost completely rewritten. The work was completed on November 12, 2008 with the release of Kdenlive 0.7, Kdenlive 0.9.10 released on October 1, 2014 was the last release of KDE 4.

Kdenlive began planning for the transition to the KDE project and its infrastructure in 2014. Since April 2015, Kdenlive has officially become part of the KDE project, and the version numbering system has been linked to the release date. Thus, after version 0.9.10, version 15.04.0 was released (15 is the year, 04 is the month, and the last digit is the subversion number). Updates are issued three times a year - in April, in August, and in December.

With the release of the first update to version 16.12, thanks to the work of Joseph Joshua and Vincent Pinon, the first version of Kdenlive for Windows was released [6] . Among the features of this version of the editor are support for a large number of audio and video file formats, the possibility of audio and video correction, the use of oscilloscopes, etc. [7] .
