September 19, 1991, according to the decree of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine “On the Revival of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy”, the University “Kiev-Mohyla Academy” was established on the historical territory of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy [1] . The main initiator of the resumption of the activities of the historical Kiev-Mohyla Academy was Vyacheslav Bryukhovetsky , who became the first president of NaUKMA [2] . An important role in the creation of NaUKMA was played by the deans-organizers: Sergey Semenovich Ivaniuk - dean-organizer of the Faculty of Humanities, Alexei Vasilyevich Garan - dean-organizer of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Vitaly Pavlovich Zamostyan - dean-organizer of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The deans-organizers did a great job of developing the concepts of faculties, teaching academic disciplines, areas of specialist training, and organizing educational and scientific activities. To collect the necessary funds at the beginning, the Heritage of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy Research Center, the International Charity Fund for the Revival of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy and the Kiev-Mohyla Foundation of America were created. Many private individuals donated their own libraries to the newly created university. Also, the renovation and construction of new buildings were largely funded by private individuals. So, the bachelor’s library was restored with the help of the Yemelyan and Tatyana Antonovich Foundation and now bears the name of the Antonovich. Exactly one year after Ukraine gained independence, on August 24, 1992, the first NaUKMA students began their studies. In 1994, the university received national status and was accredited at the fourth level of accreditation.

For some time NaUKMA had two branches in Ostrog and in Nikolaev. Now they have become separate universities - the National University of Ostrog Academy and the Black Sea State University. Peter the Grave. With the participation of NaUKMA, the Kremenets Regional Humanitarian and Pedagogical Academy named after Taras Shevchenko was also established. Under the tutelage of the university, there is also a network of collegiums, which has 12 educational institutions throughout Ukraine [3] .

Criticism

Dmitry Tabachnik , when he was the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, negatively describes the current state of affairs at the academy, comparing it with Ksenia Sobchak : [47]

You know, there is such a famous socialite in Russia who can neither sing, nor dance, nor play on stage. But then it is scandalous at any social gatherings, maintaining a dubious level of attention to itself. She is from a famous family, her father once headed a big city. So, we also have such a secular lioness in education - this is the Kiev-Mohyla Academy, which tirelessly sues all ministers of education and always with the same result ... If there are no achievements in education, such as at the university Shevchenko, Kiev Polytechnic - every year they can say how many students win prestigious competitions, intellectual competitions, how many professors are invited from abroad, how many have received state awards, and someone compensates for all this events.
