Description
The Griffin is an imperious creature constantly indignant at the whims and oddities of the characters of other characters in the book, such as, for example, aggressiveness and the desire to chop the head of the Red Queen (which, in the opinion of the Griffin, never happens) or the tearfulness of the Quasi Turtle . He speaks with a Cockney accent and loves to give orders to everyone, especially the Quasi Turtle, who usually resignedly executes them.
In the book
The griffin appears in the middle of the 9th chapter of “The Tale of the Quasi Turtle” in which the Red Queen orders him to take Alice to the Quasi Turtle to tell her his story. In the next chapter, The Quadrille, Griffin stays with Alice and Quasi, while the latter tells his story and a few verses. The tortoise and the Griffin explain to Alice some features of life in the Fairyland that Alice perceives as nonsense.
At the end of chapter 10, the Griffin asks Quasi to sing the song “Evening Food,” and when Quasi finishes singing, the Griffin asks to repeat the chorus. Suddenly, in the distance, the cry “The court is coming!” Is heard, and the Griffin insistently demands that Alice run away with him without explaining the reason. In chapter 11, “Who Stole Pretzels?”, The Griffin is mentioned only once. When Alice asks him what the jury writes, he replies that they write down their names, as they are afraid to forget them by the end of the process.
