The name of the county is formed on behalf of the city of Sisak and the region of Moslavin .
Content
Geographical position
County is bordered by the provinces of Karlovachka in the west, Zagrebachka in the north, Bjelovarsko-Bilogorsk and Pozhesko-Slavonska in the northwest and Brodsko-Posavsk in the east, as well as Bosnia-Herzegovina in the south.
The most picturesque part of the County is Moslavina with the Lonsko Pole Natural Park.
History
The capital of the county, the city of Sisak , was the capital of the Roman province of Pannonia-Savia and the largest city in the region at the confluence of the Kupa and Sava rivers .
The patron saint of Sisak is Saint Quirinius , the first Christian bishop to be tortured during the persecution of Christians under the emperor Diocletian . Legend has it that he was tied to a millstone and thrown into the river, but he miraculously escaped and continued his service to God.
Sisak became famous thanks to the battle of Sisak in 1593 , when the army of the Holy Roman Empire defeated the Turkish army of the Ottoman Empire .
Sisak has the largest metallurgical plant in Croatia, supported by the Faculty of Metallurgy of the University of Zagreb , located in Sisak, and the largest oil refinery. They are associated with petrochemical production in the neighboring town of Kutin .
Demographics
According to the 2011 census, the total population of the county is 172,439 people [2] . The largest cities are Sisak , Petrinia and Kutina .
According to the census, 142,077 Croats (82.39%), 21,002 Serbs (12.18%), 2464 Bosnians (1.43%) live in the county. For other nationalities does not exceed 1% [2] . The predominant religion is Catholicism (79.27%). 12.23% are Orthodox, 2.4% are Muslims. 4.96% are not religious or refused to respond.
