Sailing competitions at the 2012 Summer Olympics were held from July 28 to August 11 . 10 sets of awards were played. Competitions were held in the city of Weymouth on the basis of the national sailing academy of Weymouth and Portland ( Portland Island ).
Compared to past competitions , the Tornado class was excluded from the program, and the Ingling class was replaced by Elliott 6M .
22-year-old Pavlos Kontides , becoming the second in the Laser class, brought Cyprus the first medal in all sports in the history of the Olympic Games.
