Geography

The relief of the region is an elevated plain with an average height of 170-190 m. The elevations along the banks of the Volga are traditionally called "mountains": the Yuryev mountains , the Bogorodsky mountains , the Syukey mountains , the Tetyush mountains . There are also Lobach Mountain, Yuryevskaya Cave on the territory of the district, and until 1958 there were Syukeyevsky caves , flooded and washed out by the reservoir.

Mostly gray and dark gray forest soils are widespread.

In the district, reserves of dolomites , clays and gypsum (including the largest in the Republic of Kamsk-Ustinsky deposit ) have been explored . Some of the deposits have exhausted their resources ( Gypsy-1 ), development continues in Tenishevo and Syukeevo .

The eastern and southern borders of the region are formed by the Kuibyshev reservoir, the width of which in these places reaches 16 km. Before the formation of the reservoir, the confluence of the Volga and Kama was completely within the boundaries of the region.

Largest rivers (total length not less than 15 km):

  • Sviyaga basin - Sukhaya Ulema and its tributaries Kiyarmety , Big Shakyan .
  • Volga basin - Karamalka , Mordovian , Ishimovskaya .

History

Until 1920, the district was part of the Tetyush district, from 1920 to 1927 - to the Tetyush canton , from 1927 to 1930 - to the Buinsky canton .

It was formed on August 10, 1930.

On January 4, 1963, the Kamsko-Ustyinsky district was abolished, re-formed on January 12, 1965 .
