Biography
Blondel was born in the city of Chaumont (department of the Upper Marne). His father was a judge in Dijon . Andre was the best student in town. In 1888 he graduated from the School of bridges and roads. In 1888-1889 he worked in the laboratory at Maxim Kornu at the Polytechnic School. Since 1893 - professor of the Mining School and the School of Bridges and Roads. In the late 1890s, Blondel was paralyzed by his legs, but he continued to research, setting up a laboratory in Levallupe.
In 1893, Andre Blondel solved the problem of integral synchronization using the Cornu theory. These studies set the stage for a deeper understanding of AC behavior. This allowed him to invent a bifilar oscilloscope . It was more powerful than the classic strobe invented in 1891 .
In 1894, he proposed lumen and other photometric units.
In 1899, Blondel published the work “Empirical Theories of Synchronous Generators”, which contains the basic theories of two anchor reactions.
In 1913, he became a member of the French Academy of Sciences, and in 1927 received the Order of the Legion of Honor. In 1932 he was elected an honorary member of the USSR Academy of Sciences [1] . In 1937 he was awarded the Faraday Medal . He also received the Franklin Institute Medal and the Lord Kelvin Award.
