Kano Motonobu ( Japanese 狩 野 元 信 Kano: Motonobu , born August 28, 1476 - d. November 5, 1559 ) - Japanese artist, representative of the Kano school .
Kano Motonobu was the son of Kano Masanobu , the founder of the Kano school. A relative of Tosa Mitsunobu , one of the last great representatives of the Tosa art school , under the influence of whose creativity Motonobu was also, and from whom he borrowed the use of Chinese elements in painting.
Kano Motonobu is known as one of the most talented masters of the Kano school. He painted landscapes and portraits, also carried out orders for monumental wall painting, willingly depicted birds and flowers in his paintings. One of his largest works is artwork at the Reyun-in and Daisen-in Temples in Kyoto , as well as 3 scrolls with “Legends of Mount Oe”. In his work, Kano Motonobu combined the achievements of the Chinese artistic tradition with the peaks of Japanese fine art. He painted landscapes both multicolor and monochrome . Kano Motonobu was a court painter for such shoguns as Ashikaga Yoshiaki , Ashikaga Yoshizumi and Ashikaga Yoshiharu .
