Life and work
At the age of 11, Dalu entered the school of drawing, where he studied in the class of the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Carpo , who taught him painting and plastic art on antique samples. As the best student, Dahl was allowed to work in the Carpo workshop. In 1856, Dalu moved to the art studio of Francis Joseph Dure , but did not stay there for long. Later, the young sculptor worked for a while as the author of models for jewelers and masters in bronze.
In 1862, he made his debut at an exhibition at the Paris School of Fine Arts , presenting there his plaster statue. In 1870, he created the “ Embroiderer ” statue, for which he received an award at the Paris Salon . Dalu was appointed guardian of the Louvre and in the same year he created the statuette "National Guardsman". During the Franco-Prussian War, the sculptor served in the National Guard ; accused of participating in the Paris Commune , Dalu was forced to emigrate to England , where his work was very successful.
After returning to France in 1879, he exhibited his works in the salon of 1883 and received 2 honorary medals for two exhibited bas-reliefs (one of the bas-reliefs of Dalu was commissioned by the French National Assembly ). Dalu executed large orders, for example, the bronze compositions "Triumph of the Republic" overloaded with figures at the Place de la Nacion in Paris 1879-1899. He was buried in the cemetery of Montparnasse .
