Biography
Gleb Mikhailovich Molchanov was born on October 4, 1923 in the village of Kubey, Odessa province .
During the war
In 1941 he graduated from school in Chisinau and applied to the Leningrad Naval Engineering College named after F.E. Dzerzhinsky , however, after the outbreak of war, he was evacuated to the Lysogorsky district of the Saratov region and entered the Saratov Automobile and Road Institute; in November 1941 he went to the front as a volunteer.
On November 25, 1941, he was sent to the 1034th artillery regiment of the 127th rifle division, where he served at the beginning as a private, then gun commander. In the battles of Stalingrad he was wounded.
After the cure, Gleb Mikhailovich was sent to Kostroma , to the 3rd Leningrad Artillery School, after which, with the rank of junior lieutenant, he commanded a platoon of control of the 86th heavy howitzer artillery brigade, fought first in the Central , and then the 1st Belorussian Front . He participated in the liberation of the right bank of the Dnieper , Belarus, Western Ukraine, Poland.
In the battles on the Vistula , being at the forefront, Gleb Molchanov was able to give an accurate tip for the brigade fire, for which he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree .
During the assault on Berlin, a group of intelligence officers under the command of Lieutenant Molchanov entered the enemy rear on April 21, 1945, and dug in, but was discovered and forced to repel attacks, while simultaneously adjusting artillery fire. Caught in the location of the tank and motorized units of the enemy, the group fired on itself, and after the start of the general offensive for several hours, it prevented the withdrawal of a large group of the enemy. As a result of this battle, about 60 enemy soldiers and officers were destroyed, and 40 people were captured. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 31, 1945, for the exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and for the courage and heroism shown in battles with the Nazi invaders, Gleb Mikhailovich Molchanov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
After the war
After the war, G. M. Molchanov continued to serve in the armed forces, in 1952 he graduated with honors from the Military Academy. M.V. Frunze . Since 1955, G. M. Molchanov served as a senior lecturer in the military department of the Smolensk Institute of Physical Culture, then served in the headquarters of the 50th Missile Army and as head of the civil defense headquarters of the Smolensk Institute of Physical Culture. He retired in 1964 with the rank of colonel .
Gleb Mikhailovich Molchanov died on July 13, 2002 .
