Biography
Lorenzo Salvi was born in Rome on October 30, 1782. He studied at the priest in the Jesuit -run Romano College in Rome, among his classmates was the future Pope Gregory XVI . Inspired by the preaching of St. Vincent Stramby , in 1801 he entered the monastery of passionists, just founded by Vincent Stramby, taking the monastic name of Lorenzo Maria St. Francis Xavier. He took monastic vows on November 20, 1802, and was ordained a priest on December 29, 1805. The anticlerical laws of Napoleon I forced the passionists to leave the monastery. When Lorenzo Salvi was able to return to the monastery, he began to actively engage in preaching. He was later appointed rector of a monastery house in Rome. In his pastoral and preaching work, Lorenzo Maria St. Francis Xavier paid special attention to the Christian dogma of the Incarnation, because of which, after his death, he began to be depicted in icons with the baby Jesus.
He died on June 12, 1856 in the city of Viterbo, Italy.
