List of 72 Eiffel Tower names

List of 72 names on the Eiffel Tower - a list of 72 names of the most prominent French scientists and engineers of the 18th-19th centuries [1] , placed on the ground floor of the Eiffel Tower . The names were engraved at the beginning of the 20th century under the first balcony (see photo) on all four sides of the tower.

During one of the tower colors, the names became indistinguishable, so in 1986-1987 the list was restored.

The list has been criticized several times: the exact sciences are mainly represented, biologists and doctors are only five; there is not a single female name. Feminist societies demanded to perpetuate the mathematician Sophie Germain , but did not succeed. Due to the lack of space, the inscription contains only a surname, which requires additional comments, which are listed in the list from the scientific dynasty of Carnot or Becquerels . There is no (alphabetical, chronological, or other) sequence of names.
