History

Debut EP and Nothing Gold Can Stay (1997-1999)

The group gathered under the name “A New Found Glory” in mid-1997 in Coral Springs, Florida . Jordan Pandic and Steve Klein started writing music together. Then they were joined by bassist Ian Grashka and drummer Joe Moreno. The last to include Chad Gilbert, a former vocalist for Shai Hulud . At first, the quintet played in the garage at Grashka.

The first release was the 1997 EP It's All About the Girls , via Fiddler Records . Shortly after the recording of this mini-album Moreno left the group, and his place was taken by the current drummer Kir Boluki. Since then, the composition of the group has not changed. After a bit of time, the label Eulogy Records drew attention to the band. On it, the band's first full-length album, Nothing Gold Can Stay, was released. This happened in the fall of 1999. The release of the album and the subsequent tour provided support for pop punk fans. After the release, the name of the group was changed to “New Found Glory” to prevent confusion in music stores [3] .

Cover-EP, self-titled album and Sticks and Stones (2002-2003)

Independent label Drive-Thru Records drew attention to the growing number of fans of the group and offered to sign a contract. In 2000, the Quintet released an album of covers for songs from films called From the Screen to Your Stereo . The relationship between Drive-Thru and MCA Records has allowed the release of the next, self-titled New Found Glory album on the larger MCA label in the same year. The third studio album, Sticks and Stones , was released in 2002. This was followed by an appearance on the Vans Warped Tour . Both albums became " gold " according to the RIAA .

Catalyst (2003-2005)

After a period of rest and short performances on the Honda Civic Tour with Good Charlotte and Simple Plan , New Found Glory released their Catalyst album in May 2004. It reached number three on the Billboard 200 with sales of 146,000 copies in its first week [4] .

The heavier sound style, in which the influence of metal and new wave is felt, was a response to comparing the group with some popular bands in magazines and other media . Here is what Chad Gilbert said: “Well, when the Sticks and Stones came out and we participated in the Honda Civic Tour, we were compared with bands like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan, which we really didn't like. Yes, we were compared with more popular bands, but we are not a pop group ... ” [5] . The song "This Disaster" is featured in the Madden 2005 video game. “At Least I'm Known for Something” can be heard in Burnout 3: Takedown . Catalyst became the third "golden" album of New Found Glory [6] .

Coming Home and Cover Album (2005-2007)

After the release of Catalyst and a tour in support of it, the band took a short break to prepare for the recording of their next album. On June 14, 2006, Gilbert told MTV .com that his next album would be called “ Coming Home, ” and was scheduled for release on September 19, 2006. He also said that the first single, “It's Not Your Fault,” would be released somewhere. then in July 2006.

The album became popular, many critics gave the album positive ratings. Coming Home was included in the list of “Essential Albums of 2006” (Most Important Albums of 2006) by Alternative Press [7] . Nevertheless, there were no more singles from this album, and the band left Geffen Records . Subsequently, they will criticize this label. New Found Glory then signed with Epitaph Records . Bassist Ian Grashka said: “Our goal for the next album is to sell more copies than Coming Home sold. We are happy that we are now with Epitaph. Our manager from Geffen was just a soulless tool in the hands of the label, so the big sales of the new disc will be like 'Fuck You' addressed to him ” [8] .

From the Screen to Your Stereo, Part II , which was a continuation of the From the Screen to Your Stereo mini-album, was released on September 18, 2007 via Drive-Thru Records [9] . This is already a full-length album consisting of 11 songs, plus one bonus track for the Japanese edition and version from iTunes . The only single from this album is “Kiss Me”.

Hits , Tip of the Iceberg EP , Not Without a Fight (2008 — Today)

On March 18, 2008, a compilation of the best songs of the group called " Hits " was released. There are two previously unreleased songs on it: Situations and Constant Static. This album was the latest release on Drive-Thru / Geffen Records. In April 2008, a compilation from the Punk Goes series was released ... titled Punk Goes Crunk , which featured New Found Glory, a cover of Tennessee by Arrested Development . Prior to this, the band recorded another cover - "Heaven", for the collection Punk Goes Metal .

On April 29, 2008, the band released an EP on Bridge 9 Records . It has both new material and cover versions of the songs of classic hardcore punk bands. The EP, titled Tip of the Iceberg , was published on CD, 7 '' vinyl and electronic. The CD contains an additional CD from The International Superheroes of Hardcore , titled Takin 'It Ova! The ISHC is a side project for all band members, in which Gilbert is a vocalist and Pandik plays the guitar. The rest of the participants play the same instruments as in New Found Glory. All participants use stage names in The ISHC (for example, Gilbert - “Captain Straight edge ”). A video clip specifically for the Internet for the song “Dig My Own Grave” was directed by director Joseph Pattisell [10] .

The sixth studio album, Not Without a Fight [11] , was released March 10, 2009. The producer was Mark Hoppus . The album was released on Epitaph Records . Hoppus said that he had high hopes for this album and he liked working with NFG [12] . The first single from the album was “Listen to Your Friends”. A video clip of him was shot in Los Angeles . The single was released on December 22 in the UK and a day later in the United States .

The band then recorded and released a joint EP with Shai Hulud . It's called Not Without a Heart Once Nourished by Sticks and Stones Within Blood Ill-Tempered Misanthropy Pure Gold Can Stay , and was only sold during the Not Without a Fight tour. Only 400 copies were made, all for sale only at the performances of Shai Hulud and NFG. In June 2012, New Found Glory released the video clip " Summer Fling, Don't Mean A Thing" .

December 11, 2013 on the official page on Facebook, there was information that due to personal disagreements, the guitarist Steve Klein left the band [13] .

Musical style and influences

The group plays typical pop punk , and in recent releases it often mixes it with elements of hardcore . This is most vividly expressed by the Tip of the Iceberg mini-album [14] . On the Coming Home album, the group has a more classic rock style with not-so-fast tunes [15] .

Rhythm guitarist Steve Klein is the main songwriter, while Chad Gilbert usually writes music. Klein said that on each album, the participants are trying to record something new, not like previous releases.

According to the NFG participants, they were greatly influenced by the hardcore bands Hatebreed and Madball , as well as the pop punk band Green Day [16] . Madball is dedicated to The ISHC's “Madball's Got Our Back,” and Pandik wears a Madball logo T-shirt in the “Listen to Your Friends” video.

The group had a significant impact on the isikor style, which is a mix of pop punk and hardcore [17] . Organized by the group in 2008, the Easycore Tour gave the name to the genre [17] [18] . It is also possible that the group is the founder of the genre [18] .

Video

The band’s first clip, “Hit or Miss,” was first shot with a very small budget . In it participants are caught by a policeman, for example, Ian - for buying Backstreet Boys , and Kira - for appearing on the street with his pants down. A video was also filmed for the version of the song from the 2000 album, in which the participants wake up together in the same apartment and rush to the performance, getting into funny situations along the way. Another clip from this album, “Dressed to Kill”, was also filmed a clip telling about a guy in love with a girl played by actress Rachel Lee Cook . In the next video clip for the song “My Friends Over You,” the group plays in front of their fans on stage. You can see jokes and skits in the video. The video contains a cameo of three members of the Transplants group ( Travis Barker , Tim Armstrong and Rob Aston ), as well as Brody Dell from The Distillers . The moment when everything around freezes, and the guitarist moves very quickly - a parody of the clip System of a Down - "Toxicity". The next video is for the song “Head on Collision”, it was shot in the style of an old comedy. The All Downhill from Here video is shot in the same style as the Catalyst album cover. Video made using French animators No Brain. They created an animated world inhabited by strange creatures in which New Found Glory plays. In the Failure's Not Flattering video, the band members are very small, while the covers of magazines and the TV screen come to life. The video for the song “I Don't Wanna Know” tells about the complex relationships of a young couple, showing different periods of their life in one place - on a park bench. This clip is so far the only video of the group without humorous moments. In the video “It's Not Your Fault,” a guy and a girl wake up and, almost without dressing, go out into the street. While the couple are walking, they gradually find all their other clothes, and eventually dress completely. In episodic roles, members of the group also appear. The Kiss Me video was shot in Linkroft, New Jersey . NFG is played at a party in it, and the main character of the clip is a young man played by Chase Dodds, drummer of the Classic Addict band. Also in the video appears Hayley Williams , vocalist of the band Paramore [19] . In the latest at the moment “Listen to Your Friends” video clip, the band members play the role of fighters in the tournament of fights without rules. Meyer Avi directed the video, he also made the videos Failure's Not Flattering and All Downhill from Here.
