Biography

Cristina Louise was born in the family of Albrecht Ernst I of Ettingen-Ettingen (1642–1683), who received the title of imperial prince in 1674, and his wife, Duchess Christina Frederic of Württemberg (1644–1674).

On April 22, 1690, in Aurich, the princess was married to Prince Ludwig Rudolf Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel . Their residence was located in Blankenburg , which was granted to Ludwig Rudolph as an outpost by his father, Anton Ulrich . In 1707, the county of Blankenburg received the status of a princedom from the Holy Roman Emperor Joseph I. The daughter of Christina Louise, Elizabeth Christina, was chosen to be bride to the future Emperor Charles VI .

Ludwig Rudolph and Christian Louise did not skimp on the maintenance of the Blankenburg court, Christina Louise had a great influence on her husband in political and administrative matters. In honor of her, Mount Calvinusberg in 1728 was built a country house. In 1735, after the death of her husband, Christina Louise returned to Blankenburg, where she participated in cultural life and devoted herself to the care of the palace park. In the Blankenburg Palace, she was served by the former teacher of the Prussian crown prince Friedrich Janden ( fr. Charles Egide Duhan de Jandun ) who fell out of favor with Friedrich Wilhelm I after a high-profile story with Katte .

In a marriage with Ludwig Rudolph, Christina Louise had four daughters, one of whom died in infancy. Christina Louise's father-in-law Anton Ulrich skillfully arranged their marriages, so that Christina Louise is simultaneously the grandmother of Empress Maria Theresa , Russian Emperor Peter II , Queen of Prussia Elizabeth Christina and Queen of Denmark Juliana .

The Duchess Christina Louise is buried with her husband in Braunschweig Cathedral .
