Pumbedita (also Pumpedita or Pumbediza ) is a city in ancient Babylonia , in which there was one of the largest Talmudic academies ( English Pumbedita Academy ), which led - together with the Academy of the city of Sura ( English Sura Academy ) - to the heyday of the Babylonian Talmud . The Academy was founded by Judas ben Ezekiel at the end of the 3rd century.
