Kurdoev, Kanat Kalashevich

Kanat Kalashevich Kurdoev ( Kurd. Qanat Kûrdoev, Qanatê Kurdo ; September 12 , 1909 - October 31 , 1985 ) - Soviet linguist - orientalist , one of the founders of Kurdish studies . For more than a quarter century, he was the head of the Kurdish Studies Group of the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences , created by his teacher, academician I. A. Orbeli .

Biography

Born in the village of Susuz, Digorsky district of the Kara region, in a Yezidi [1] peasant family. He graduated from elementary school in Tbilisi . In 1928, on the recommendation of the Communist Party of Armenia, he was sent to study at the Working Faculty of National Minorities at the Institute of Living Oriental Languages (Leningrad). After graduating from the Socio-Economic Department in 1931, he entered the Leningrad Institute of History, Philosophy, Linguistics and Literature ( LIFLI ). From 1936 to 1939 - graduate student of the Faculty of Philology at Leningrad University . From 1939 to 1941, he was a senior researcher at the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences. From 1943 to 1945 he fought on the 2nd Baltic Front . [2]

From 1945 to 1947 he worked as a senior lecturer at the Oriental faculty of Leningrad State University. From 1950 to the passing of his life, K.K. Kurdoev was a senior researcher at the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

KK Kurdoev is the author of such fundamental works as the academic “Grammar of the Kurdish language (Kurmanji)”, “Grammar of the Kurdish language based on the dialects of Kurmanji and Sorani”, as well as numerous articles on the morphology, syntax and vocabulary of the Kurdish language. A special place in the scientific heritage of Kanat Kalashevich is occupied by the dictionaries compiled by him: “Kurdish-Russian Dictionary (Kurmanji)” and “Kurdish-Russian Dictionary (Sorani)”, compiled jointly with Z. A. Yusupova. KK Kurdoev prepared several books that have passed several editions for schools in their native language.

In 1972, a large collection of Kurdish folklore prepared by K. K. Kurdoev was published in Baghdad . He was elected a full member of the Kurdish Academy of Sciences of Iraq, as well as an Honorary Member of the Kurdish Institute in Paris .
