History
The church was built in 1740-1752 on the site of a wooden parish church on Cathedral Square to the left of the Nativity of Christ Cathedral .
Since 1994, it has been part of the Kargopol Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve. In 1996 it was transferred to the Arkhangelsk and Kholmogorsk diocese .
In the church there was an icon of a local saint: a large image of the Kargopol miracle workers.
Architecture and decoration
The highest in the city (35 m), emphasized by strict form, this church with baroque domes rises above the surrounding area with three tiers of windows. The lower ones have rounded semicircular arches, the upper ones are octagonal. On the four-pitched roof there are large, widely spaced stone drums with a baroque five-domed head: above the squat lower domes, there is also a small poppy top, which gives the impression of elegance, like in wooden architecture, of many heads. The only church with double domes.
The large altar extension is intricately covered with three keeled roofs, and a poppy roof is above each. A low porch with a gable roof adjoins the church from the west, and a covered porch from the north side.
Although the building is in good condition, the temple is completely devoid of interior decoration. The iconostasis is indicated by only a few paper icons on plywood panels, the huge space of the temple is completely devoid of icons.
Clergy
The rector of the parish is Archpriest Andrei (Usachev), the clergyman of the parish is Priest Michael (Buzinkin).
The parish created and is taking care of a prayer room in the Nyandom special boarding school for juvenile delinquents. A prayer room has also been created and is being taken care of in the Kargopol nursing home. There is a Sunday school for children at the temple.
