Story
Strange things happen in the Rocky Mountains County. Residents of one village are disturbed by a mountain called the Eagle's Nest. At night a flame comes out, and sometimes the earth shudders from an earthquake. One night, residents heard the flapping of wings in the sky, and after that everything calmed down. Inspectors Row sent to the mountain to find out what was happening there.
The policeman does not manage to penetrate the mountain, after which even more mysterious things begin to happen: on the roads and on the water a monstrous apparatus of unknown power appears, the owner of which is unknown, and the inspector begins to receive letters with threats. The owner of the Grozny apparatus is signed as "Lord of the world." Inspector Strok, with police agents, is trying to arrest the owner of Grozny, but he himself becomes his captive and witnesses the power of the new device. Two destroyers decide to catch up with Grozny on the lake, but the ship takes off over Niagara Falls and leaves the chase. It turns out that the mysterious creator of Grozny invented a car that can sail under water like a submarine, like water in a ship, drive on land, like a car, and even fly like an airplane. The Lord of the World is revealed to Inspector Strok. His real name is Robur.
Robur challenges not only the whole society, but also nature. Having become a hostage of his ambitions, Robur and his invention die from a lightning strike.
Creation History
Jules Verne conceived the novel in the 1890s, but then he was attracted by achievements in the field of ballistics , and he postponed the novel. [2] Then he wrote the novel “ The Flag of the Homeland ”, which describes a powerful weapon. The Lord of the World was written only in 1904. The old hero Verna Robur appears in him, however, here he is no longer a brilliant scientist whose goal is the technological progress of mankind, but a dictator whose goal is to conquer the world. He realized his power and wanted to use it against people. Unlike Captain Nemo , who remains true to his morality for the rest of his life, Robur becomes a victim of his gift.
