Biography
Born in the city of Spas-Demensk, Kaluga Region. Since 1921 he lived in Smolensk. Since 1936 he was engaged in aircraft modeling and glider sports in the Smolensk flying club (he studied with Kugel, Felix Romanovich ). In 1937 he graduated from the aircraft department of the Smolensk flying club and was left there as an instructor pilot.
In the army since 1938. In 1940 he graduated from Odessa VAShL. He served in the combat units of the Air Force.
Member of the Great Patriotic War: in June-August 1941 - pilot of the 124th Fighter Aviation Regiment (Western Front); in August 1941-April 1944 - pilot, flight commander, AE of the 234th fighter aviation regiment (Western and South-Western air defense fronts); in April 1944-May 1945 - deputy commander - navigator of the 145th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment (Baltic Front). He made 424 sorties, conducted 68 air battles, in which he personally shot down 15 enemy aircraft and 1 paired with a wingman [1] .
After the war, he continued to serve in the combat units of the Air Force.
From February 1946 to July 1966 - at flight test work in the LII.
He performed the first flight and tested the I-320 ("R-1") (04.16.1949), " 150 " (5.10.1952), An-8 (02.11.1956), An-10 (03.03.1957), An -12 (12.16.1957). He tested the corkscrew MiG-9 (1948) and La-11 (1949); tests of the MiG-15 on a straight and inverted corkscrew (1949-1950); An-10 and An-12 in critical modes (1958-1959); Tu-95 at large angles (1960); tests of the TV-2T engine on the Tu-4LL (1955). In 1949-1950 he participated in flights to develop a Tu-4 aircraft refueling system, the first to refuel at night. He took part in the tests of the Yak-15 (1947), CE (1951), Tu-126 (1962). In 1956 he graduated from the Air Force Academy .
In 1966-1976 - senior test pilot of OKB S.V. Ilyushin. Fulfilled the first flight and tested Il-62M (1969). Participated in the trials of IL-18 , IL-38 , IL-62 , IL-76. In 1975, he set 4 world aviation records for carrying capacity on the IL-76 .
Since 1975 - in stock. In January-May 1976 - again on flight test work in the LII.
Since 1976 he worked in the OKB A.S. Yakovleva: deputy head of the LIK (1976-1979), head of the LIK (1979-1985), leading engineer for flight tests (1985-1988).
He lived in the city of Zhukovsky, Moscow Region, in recent years - in Moscow. He died on September 30, 1993. He was buried in Zhukovsky, at the Bykovsky cemetery .

- He was awarded two Orders of Lenin , the Order of the October Revolution , four Orders of the Red Banner , the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor , three Orders of the Red Star , and medals.
